The following developments took place in July:
METRO WEST
On 5 July 2007, the Minister for Transport announced the preferred route corridor for Metro West – the orbital Metro which will connect Tallaght, Clondalkin and Blanchardstown in the west of Dublin join and with Metro North near Dublin Airport. The route is approximately 25 kilometres in length and will have up to 20 stops.
Metro West will provide an important connection between current and planned transport systems by permitting interchange with the Luas Red Line, the Maynooth and Kildare commuter rail lines, Metro North, the new Luas Lines to Citywest and Lucan and a range of bus services.
Metro West is scheduled for completion in 2014. RPA will now begin the next phase of consultation which will focus on the design of the route which will lead to the determination of the location of the alignment, of stops, of Park & Ride sites and of a tram depot.
