Delivery of Transport 21

The following developments on delivery of Transport 21 have taken place in June 2006.


Heavy Rail

  • Cork Commuter Rail Project: The Minister has appointed Mr. Pat Butler S.C. as Inspector for the Public Inquiry into Iarnród Éireann’s application for a Railway Order for the development of the Midleton-Glounthaune line. It is expected that the Inquiry will commence in September. 

Roads 

  • N4 Edgeworthstown Bypass: Minister of State Pat the Cope Gallagher officially opened the Edgeworthstown Bypass on 19 June 2006. Stretching some 3 kilometres, the bypass was constructed at a cost of €14 million (within budget). The Bypass will take some 10,000 vehicles per day out of Edgeworthstown.
  • N4 Dromod - Roosky Bypass: Minister of State Pat the Cope Gallagher TD turned the sod on this 10 kilometre bypass on 30 June. The estimated period of construction is 18 to 24 months. The bypass will extend from the eastern end of the Drumsna Bypass to the Western side of the Longford town Bypass.
